Education
Workforce is everything. Creating an educated and
positive workforce doesn’t just happen overnight.
It begins with education, but even before that, it
begins with advocacy that on-boards the education

community. DCMA advocates continually interface
with educators and administrators from both public
and higher education. Those efforts shape perceptions
about the future of industry needs and the viability of
careers in the modern manufacturing workforce.
Legislation
Often, the least anticipated challenges to industry
arise from state and federal legislation that business
owners never saw coming. The Texas Association
of Manufacturers (TAM) provides DCMA members
with a strong, effective voice for the industry at the
state capitol and in our nation’s capital to ensure
continued growth and job creation. Year round, the
association reinforces to lawmakers, regulators,
consumers, and the press that manufacturers
are not immune from collective consequences of
state and federal legislative and regulatory actions.
The industry – and the state and nation that
depend on it – need smart public policy to keep the
manufacturing sector strong.
Beyond the face-to-face educators, a great deal of
lobbying happens with education administrators
to convince them regarding the value of allocating
resources to next-gen manufacturing careers. The
DCMA currently works with Garland and Mesquite
ISDs, as well as Dallas College, to advocate for
manufacturers and manufacturing career paths.
Parents
As any educator will attest, all the programs in the
world are useless if parents do not perceive the
bene昀椀t those programs provide their children. Multiple
programs exist within the Dallas College system, but
those programs often require advance readiness. That
preparation happens within the public school systems,
but even before that, it happens at home.
The DCMA and Garland Chamber of Commerce
provide literature, direct mail programs, after-hours
seminars, and job fairs in an effort to reach parents
and enlighten them regarding career possibilities
within the local manufacturing community.
